This blond brick building, designed by Frederick V. Kershner, was completed in 1931. It was built to house the city's electronic equipment necessary to receive and dispatch fire alarms. It has a terra cotta panel over the entrance which depicts an Adonis-type male figure holding Gamewell alarm tape. Lightning bolts radiate from this male figure and two helmeted firefighters flank him on each side. Dragons, firefighting axes, and nozzles are depicted in terra cotta panels which ring the building and gargoyle heads guard the back of the building. Massive lanterns, with etched glass, originally graced the front of the building. View the interior of the Fire Alarm Building as it appeared in 1949.
