BOK Center Ready for Big Dance March 15, 2011 They're ready for the big dance at the BOK Center. Tulsa's arena is one of the sites hosting rounds two and three of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Tulsa Sports Commission Executive Director Ray Hoyt says this is one of the rewards for building the arena. "It's kind of the payoff for the community for investing a center like this." Hoyt feels it is not a question of if but when the tournament will make another appearance in Tulsa. He says they have already started work to bring the tournament back. Hoyt says this is also a chance for Tulsa to shine. "It's one of those places where I don't think a lot of people have it on their radar. It's our opportunity to show them a cool time and what Tulsa has to offer." Hoyt also likes the teams Tulsa drew. He says he expects Kansas, Texas, Arizona and Memphis fans to travel well. Hoyt says to expect downtown Tulsa to be very busy. He's predicting between 70,000 and 100,000 people will pass through downtown this weekend. Click Here For Full Story

Tulsa Alumnus Bill Blankenship Named Head Football Coach January 14, 2011
The University of Tulsa named assistant coach and former Golden Hurricane quarterback Bill Blankenship as the 28th head football coach in school history, it was announced today by Tulsa Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham.
Blankenship completed his fourth season on the coaching staff in 2010. He returned to his alma mater in January 2007 to coach the wide receivers. In 2008, Blankenship was named special teams coordinator and in 2009 added the responsibilities of running backs coach as well.
Last year, Blankenship served as senior associate head coach, running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
"We're tremendously excited to have Bill Blankenship as our head football coach. As a former TU student-athlete, a highly successful high school coach in Oklahoma and an experienced college assistant coach, Bill is exactly the leader that can move us to even greater success. His character, integrity and core values will provide outstanding leadership for our football team and The University of Tulsa," said Cunningham. Click Here For Full Story

Cowboys, Hawkeyes Tie, 15-15 OSU ends Iowa's 69-match win streak in the process. January 16, 2011
The No. 6 Oklahoma State wrestling team ended No. 10 Iowa’s 69-match winning streak in dual meets by tying the Hawkeyes, 15-15 Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With the win, the Cowboys moved to 7-2-1 on the season. Iowa went to 8-0-1 overall.
Both teams won five bouts, with Oklahoma State registering 13 takedowns in the dual to Iowa’s nine.
"A tie doesn't do a lot for anyone. I think we had our opportunities, but didn't really take advantage of them,” Oklahoma State coach John Smith said. “We had some guys in tough battles that won matches. Some of those young ones out there were just wearing their emotions on their sleeves, and we have to train through that. We have to make sure that we are prepared and mentally ready to push through tough, hard matches.
Iowa struck first when reigning NCAA champion Matt McDonough handed OSU freshman Jon Morrison a 7-3 setback. One of the key moments of the dual came in the 133-pound match when Tyler Clark’s escape with one second remaining in the second period of his 11-4 loss to top-ranked Cowboy Jordan Oliver was the difference between the Cowboy having to settle for a win by decision instead of a bonus-point major-decision victory. OU Falls to No. 12 Texas in Austin January 15, 2011
Jordan Hamilton scored 17 points and No. 12 Texas sent rival Oklahoma to an 0-3 start in the Big 12 with a 66-46 win Saturday.
Freshman forward Tristan Thompson added 15 points and eight rebounds. His 11 points in the second half sparked the run that put the game away for Texas (14-3, 2-0 Big 12).
Andrew Fitzgerald scored 18 for the Sooners (8-9), who are 0-8 away from home this season and showed little chance of ending that streak in a game in which they never led. Oklahoma shot just 1 of 15 from 3-point range.
Gary Johnson scored 14 points and Cory Joseph 10 for the Longhorns, who held Oklahoma to its lowest point total of the season.
Texas limited Oklahoma to 19 points in the first half. The Sooners started the game by missing 10 of their first 13 shots.
The Longhorns struck quickly from 3-point range, with four of their first six baskets coming from behind the arc. Hamilton made three in the half, the last giving Texas a 12-point lead. Click Here For Full Story

Talons Ink Former Cowboy Bobby Reid November 23, 2011
The Tulsa Talons announced Quarterback Bobby Reid has signed to play with the Talons in 2011.
Reid played parts of 3 seasons at Oklahoma State from 2005-07 before transferring to Texas Southern. At Oklahoma State, Reid played in 25 games completing 226 of 424 passes for 3143 yards and 27 touchdowns. In 1 year at Texas Southern, Reid threw for 1790 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“I’m truly excited about signing Bobby for the upcoming 2011 season. Closely following his college career at Oklahoma State and Texas Southern, the one thing always liked about him is that he is an extremely athletic quarterback who has the ability to beat defenses both through the air and on the ground. With the way arena football has evolved over the past few years, having an athletic quarterback who is an accurate passer is something that we wanted from all of the quarterbacks we are bringing in this year and I feel we have that with all three of them, said Head Coach Mitch Allner.
