ORU Announces 2010-11 Men’s Basketball Schedule 07/12/2010
Games against Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Missouri highlight Oral Roberts’ 2010-11 men’s basketball schedule, announced today by head coach Scott Sutton.
The Golden Eagles will also play 12 home games as part of their 2010-11 schedule. In addition to a full slate of Summit League games, ORU will host Indiana State and UALR, as well as participate in the ESPN BracketBuster in February as a home team.
“Once again we’ve put together a pretty challenging schedule,” said Sutton. “We’ve got a lot of experience returning this year and I’m hopeful we’re mature enough to handle the challenge. The non-conference portion of the schedule is pretty attractive and should prepare us well for the Summit League.”
Following a pair of exhibition games (Nov. 2 & 6) the regular-season begins on Friday, Nov. 12 when the Golden Eagles visit Missouri State in the first game of a four-year home-and-home series.
“We’re really excited about the games with Missouri State,” said Sutton. “It has a chance to be a great series for both teams and their fans.”
ORU meets cross-town rival Tulsa in a battle for the Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday, Nov. 16, a game which will be part of ESPN’s 24 Hours of Basketball.
The Golden Eagles play two of their three non-conference home games when they host Indiana State (Nov. 20) and UALR (Nov. 24) in consecutive games at the Mabee Center. ORU begins a stretch of nine straight games away from home when they visit Utah (Nov. 27).
ORU plays its final pre-Summit League tune-up at Texas Tech (Nov. 30), the beginning of a two-year, two-game series with the Red Raiders in which Tech will visit Mabee Center next season. The Golden Eagles begin their quest for the Summit League regular season title when they visit Western Illinois (Dec. 2) and IUPUI (Dec. 4).
The Golden Eagles remain on the road for their next game, but won’t have to stray too far from home, traveling to Norman for a meeting with Oklahoma on Dec. 11. This will be the first game between the two teams since 2005, and start a two-for-one series which will see the Sooners visit the Mabee Center in 2012-13.
“Being able to schedule series with schools like Texas Tech and Oklahoma is pretty exciting,” said Sutton. “It will be great facing those teams in the Mabee Center in the coming seasons.”
A three-game series with Missouri comes to an end when ORU visits the Tigers on Dec. 16, then it’s off to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, Dec. 20-23 at the South Point Casino. The Golden Eagles will face Miami (Fla.) (Dec. 21), UALR (Dec. 22) and Rice (Dec. 23). ORU resumes Summit League play on Dec. 28 at Mabee Center against IPFW.
The Golden Eagles visit Akron (Jan. 3) as part of the Holiday Hoops Classic before settling into their Summit League slate with a visit to North Dakota State (Jan. 6) and South Dakota State (Jan. 8).
Other key Summit League games include home tilts with league heavyweights Oakland (Dec. 30) and IUPUI (Feb. 24).
ORU will host an ESPN BracketBuster game on Saturday, Feb. 19. The field will be announced in the fall.
The Summit League Tournament is scheduled for March 5-8 at the Sioux Falls Arena, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Golden Eagles return four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season. Senior forward Michael Craion (Kansas City, Mo.), the Summit League Newcomer of the Year, and junior forward Dominique Morrison (Kansas City, Mo.), a first-team All-Summit selection, headline the returnees.
