’The American’ reigns at weekend box office September 6, 2010
Spy thriller "The American" rocketed to the top of the North American box office to beat out crime action flick "Takers," preliminary figures showed Sunday.
The debut weekend for George Clooney's atmospheric thriller, hailed by critics as a visually captivating but restrained departure for the Hollywood star, took in 12.3 million dollars in US and Canadian theaters this weekend, according to figures from industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.
Last week's winner "Takers," starring Hayden Christensen, Idris Elba and singers Chris Brown and T.I., earned 11.5 million dollars and fell to second place in its second week of release.
In third position was "Machete," mixing violence with a campy tribute to 1970s exploitation movies from directors Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis for an opening weekend take of 11.3 million dollars.
Fourth place went to the gruesome documentary-style horror movie "The Last Exorcism," which fell back from its competitive runner-up spot last weekend to take 7.6 million dollars.

Tulsa Oilers Become Colorado Avalanche Affiliate 9/3/2010 7:17:22 AM
Tulsa Oilers owner Jeff Lund doesn’t often wear a cap, but he made an exception on Thursday when he donned one with a Colorado Avalanche logo.
“This is big for us,” Lund said after the announcement of the Oilers’ new affiliations with the NHL’s Avalanche and American Hockey League’s Lake Erie Monsters.
For the first time since the Central Hockey League revived in 1992, the Oilers have an affiliation that will bring them players assigned from an NHL team. The number of players the Oilers will receive from the Avalanche or the Monsters will depend on several factors.
“We are not exactly sure yet about how many players; it’s still too early in the game to tell,” Oilers general manager Taylor Hall said during a press conference at the Twisted Tilt Sports Bar and Grill. “It depends on injuries all the way down the line and how many guys they sign. In the NHL, you usually have a few extra guys around, same thing in the American League, but at some point in time they always want those players playing. You are better having a player contributing at a lower level, so when you call him up, he’s ready to go. Click Here For Full Story

Rain Causes Driving Hazard Potential September 8, 2010
Tulsa's rainy forecast could pose trouble for motorists, especially in construction zones. The last time Tulsa got pounded with rain, 81st between Mingo and Memorial turned into a lake. The City of Tulsa's Paul Zachary says history won't be repeated, regardless of how much rain we get. Zachary says they've now got traffic there on the high side and drainage is complete. Multiple rainstorms in early July resulted in at least two cars getting stranded in high water near the construction site on 81st. Click Here for Local News
